Only One.
As Jesus and his disciples were in their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed - or indeed Only One. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Luke 10: 38-42, NIV.
Along with the book of Luke, I've been reading and studying end times passages, or Eschatology. I certainly do not claim to be an expert in Eschatology, and many of these passages are challenging, as they are not the "feel good and prosper" scriptures of the bible. But, Jesus always tells us the truth, even when it is difficult to hear.
I recently read Matthew 25:1-13, The Parable of the Ten Virgins. and my mind was brought back to the passage above from Luke. In Matthew 25, we have five who were ready to meet the bridegroom, and five who thought they were ready! I'm sure all ten looked the part - They were all invited to the banquet; They were all waiting for the bridegroom; I imagine they were all dressed for the banquet. But in the end, there were five to which Jesus replied, 'Truly I tell you, I don't know you.'
To me, this is one of the scariest passages in the bible. What were the differences between the five who entered in, and the five who did not?
"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour."
If I'm busy being busy, then I might miss the Only One.
